Approach
Good physical therapy demands an individualized approach. Whether recovering from an injury or suffering from pain, the process will be unique to each person’s goals, abilities, and activity level.
Susan takes the time to get to know your condition and your lifestyle in order to customize your physical therapy treatment. She strongly believes that paying attention to details makes all the difference. Paying attention to how we move sheds light on our habitual patterns. It is often these patterns that are repeated over time that cause injury or prevent an injury from healing. Often, it is not what we are doing but rather how we are doing it that makes all the difference.
Treatment will include hands-on technique in order to restore mobility in restricted areas, the design of a customized strengthening program to restore stability and balance, and instruction in body mechanics to restore healthy movement patterns and alignment. Often times, the most important part of treatment is changing our patterns and habits. Re-patterning our faulty movement habits relieves stresses and strains on the body that cause pain and tissue irritation. This process is mindful, so best outcomes are achieved when patients are actively committed to participating in their recovery.
After 20 years of practice and continuing education, Susan has developed an eclectic treatment approach that includes techniques from many schools of manual therapy, movement education, and rehabilitation science. She enjoys learning from many different sources and is constantly striving to improve her skills.
